Cultural and Tourist Resources of the Area

It has been claimed a preserved monument since 1991 from the Ministry of Culture. It housed the services of the Prefecture of Sterea Ellada.

The Thermopylae monument was erected in 1955 and was created by the sculptor Vasos Falireas. In the central pedestal there is a brass statue of the Spartan king with a spear and shield. Two statues accompany him, the representations of Parnon and Taigetos. In the base a plaque was placed that bears the inscription 'MOLON LAVE' (Come and Get it). The statue in Sparta is in the centre of the city along with the cenotaph of the king.

The Municipality aiming at the promotion of the historical event of the Thermopylae Battle as a major chapter of our cultural heritage as well as the history of Sterea Ellada has put forward the construction of an Innovative Centre of Historical Information based in Thermopylae.

Just beside Gorgopotamos River and just below the Historic Bridge lies Papanagnou's traditional watermill and operated to our days.
