Frantzomylos
The windmill that is located in the community of Frantzi is a a building of historical value (wooden wheel, a part of the procedure of making ice at the time) During its restoration and renovation its architectural features were preserved (stonework facades, fake wood frames, iron handrails etc.)so as to highlight the cultural heritage without changing the character and the style of the building in the surrounding area.
For the construction of the Watermill, apart from abundant water, the point were it would be built should have been protected from bad weather conditions, be close to housing settlements with passable roads for both people and animals so as to serve 2 to 3 housing settlements. The Windmills in Greece are of East or Greek type. They are based on hydrostatic pressure. Their fan revolves horizontally, just like the motion of the upper millstone. Upright fans are winged where there is abundance of water, just like Frantzomylos.
Following the provincial Lamia-Gorgopotamos Road, 700m before you reach Frantzi junction you turn left.
